Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all of the usb root hubs on the computer.

Under preferred plan click the change plan settings link for the plan you re currently using.
Under the power tab you can see the power output for that usb port.
Click on the power management tab and then choose the power settings you want using the check boxes next to each option.
If you are using a laptop computer this feature may help if you do not want usb powered devices to draw off the computer s battery while the devices are not actively being used.
Or check it to let windows turn off usb ports to save power.
If you want usb ports to keep supplying power in sleep mode just uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Set both the on battery and plugged in settings to disabled then click ok to apply changes.
If you change the settings on the power plan that isn t active this won t.
For the notebook computer in our example there is only a balanced setting.
Click on ok to save your changes.
Click on power options.
Click change advanced power settings then scroll down to usb settings and click the little plus next to usb selective suspend setting to expand the options.
Depending on your computer you may see several preset plan settings balanced power saving performance etc.
Under the power management tab you will see the option for restricting power to the usb port to save battery power.
Click the power management tab.
Right click on the usb root hub you want to change and then click on properties to open the usb port s properties dialog box.
Choose your desired settings using the checkboxes and then click on ok to save these settings.
Repeat this process for each usb port hub you want to change.
The operating system microsoft windows 7 allows the computer to shut off power to usb devices to save power.
Click change advanced power settings.
If you want to enable windows vista to turn off the usb root hub when the computer is running on battery power click enabled in the on battery list.
